Wednesday

Ok, I know, I know. I've not been posting quite as often as I shouldve
been. I generally can't be arsed writing long posts on a tiny keyboard
at eight in the morning, so this one's coming to you in the afternoon.

Seeing as it's been a while, I thought I'd tell you all about my new
band. After leaving Hometown Heroes almost a year ago now, I've ached
to be on stage performing again. My reasons for leaving the
aforementioned band are well know to all I care about, so I'm not
going to go into it here. Suffice to say, I wasn't happy with what I
was doing, and so beat the skins for them for the last time at last
years Selby Town Hall Battle of the Bands. I made myself look a fool
that night, and it's not a night I was proud of at all. In fact,
whenever I look back, it still makes me cringe. Poor musicianship,
poor stage performance. That night personified how I felt about the
band. I didn't care for the music, the image, the style or the
audience, and it showed.

Nevertheless, those days are behind me now, and it's time to look
forward. I was alone in my musical search. I dabbled (and still do
dabble) in electronic music, but it still can't recreate the thrill of
pounding drums in front of an appreciating audience.

Then along came Dale.

Dale was a good friend of mine already. He was the drummer in a band
called Recruitment 46, but conflict between band members forced him to
relook his position, and he left. It was almost fate, an attraction
between musicians to band together and forget the past. By joining
forces, we felt, we could pull together our wide range of influences
to create a sound better than anything we'd created before. All we
needed was a bassist.

Meet Eddy.

Eddy, who at the time of writing is still with R46 was more than happy
to pick up his four strings and jump in head first. Requiring a
different musical outlet after previous routes growing stale, he
brings an added dimension to the group.

Apart, we are three searching souls, seeking out others to listen to
our tunes.

Together, we're White Overalls.

New style hit the city.

Thursday

Many apologies for the delays in posting. What with the cold outside,
when I get on a bus my hands don't tend to want to do much typing.
It's a little warmer now though, so here goes.

I just got a couple of new toys for my phone. The first, Bebot, is a
multitouch enabled oscillator which has a real nice 'analogue' sound,
and also a little animated cartoon robot who 'sings' the tones. It's
silly, but sounds great and is bloody good fun.

The second is a little more serious. It's called Digital Bass Line, or
DB-303, and is full and accurate reconstruction/emulation of Rolands
old classic, the 303. The master of acid basslines now lives in my
pocket. Not that I'm into acid house or anything like that, I've just
spent the first half of my journey programming the bass line to 'The
Robots' by Kraftwerk. The proper one mind, not that thing from The Mix.

But yeah, it's a real, faithful emulation, the people who developed it
even took scans of a real 303 with lasers, and transferred them into
CAD software just to get the measurements right for the on screen dials.

Anyway, that's all for today, cya tomorrow.

Wednesday

Good morning everybody.

I feel I must apologise for my increasingly sparse postings, but I
have had a lot on my mind over the Christmas period, and to be
perfectly honest haven't felt like blogging at all.

Anyway, new year, new start, so let's forget the past and look to
tomorrow.

I finally have my new band, White Overalls, together, and we had our
first rehearsal last Saturday evening. To say it was the first time
we'd all played together, we came up with some great ideas, and also
some very unusual sounds, which I'm sure most of you know, I'm a big
fan of.

I'm also back at college now, and still far, far behind with
assignments. It helps that I've had my hours cut at work, which I'm
not happy about in the slightest. I've gone from an eighteen-hour week
to just a six-hour week. Really brings in the money...

As I said though, it does give me some time to do other things. I have
a couple of days free now with which to do college work, and it also
means I'm much less tired now, as I finally have a couple of days
where I don't have to be up at stupid O'clock to get to York for nine.

So, there we go, for the next few months, I'm going to be skint. I may
even have to switch to cheaper smokes. John Player Specials, here I
come...

Welcome Back

Well, happy new year one and all. I hope you all had good Christmases.
Didn't get too drunk I hope...

Many apologies for not updating this sooner, but my hands are cold on
a morning and it means iPhone typing is less than pleasurable. It's
the same today, but I thought that I should brave it.

So, 2009. New year, new start and all that bollocks. I just hope it's
to be better than '08. I'm not going to go
into any details, but suffice to say, I've had better years.

I made a fairly important desicion a couple of days ago. As college
draws to a close and the curtains come down on these past two years,
I've decided not to continue straight on to university. I will be
going, just not right away. I didn't give myself enough time with
which to research and consider all my options, so I'm leaving it this
time round. It should also give me time to complete my new years
resolution, learn to drive.

Well, there you go, not exactly a long post, but enough to let you
know that I'm still alive.

Thanks an' all.

Thursday

Good morning.

Well, Thursday's here at last. Today is a day I've been looking
forward to for a couple of weeks now for one reason. It's payday. All
my hard work selling Matsui TV's (they're just as good as the
Samsungs, honest) pays off as a rather small sum of money enters my
bank account. No longer will I be scraping together coppers to get on
the bus, or borrowing smoke after smoke from people I bearly even
know. I'm free! Well, I am until it runs out again.

By the way I'm talking some may think that it's my first payday. Not
true, just getting paid the amount I do, and getting it monthly tends
to mean that it runs out long before I'm due some more. To be honest,
most of it goes on travel anyway. I need to learn to drive. I can't
imagine it being any cheaper. In fact if anything it'll be more
expensive, but it'd be so much easier than buses and so worth the
extra expense.

It also means I can finally top my phone up today. £30 this time, so I
get my unlimited texts. I feel I must apologise to all the people who
have been sending me texts and I've not been replying. It's not my
fault! Sorry. I managed to blast through 500 last month, a record for
me, and so I may need to upgrade to the unlimited text plan. Just let
me make sure I'm on the right tarriff before I do so. I've made that
mistake before and O2 ended up screwing me over.

Anyway, this is where I leave you today.
Until tomorrow

Tuesday

Once again, apologies for the lack of updates. I've been so tired
these past few days that most of my bus journeys have been spent
sleeping rather than writing.

Aarrgghh, it's happened again, my mind is a blank. I'll be honest,
I've had trouble concentrating on anything at the moment. I've spent
the past week or so in a state of confusion and wonder. Part of it is
down to the planning I've been doing for a new experimental audio
album that is to be started over the christmas period. It's to be
called 'Wee Have also Sound-Houses' and is an exploration into
organic, natural sounds. At this stage it's to be six or seven tracks,
each exploring a different style of discovered sound.

Not the most commercial thing ever produced, but that's not why I'm
doing it.

Right, this is where I leave you today, so until tomorrow (possibly),
goodbye.
